I know. I'm a day late. Guess what? It's labor day.

This is actually work for me. There are no magic buttons here on this weekly blog. It takes many hours of putting this all together for you all every week. And well, sometimes even lil Ralphie get's tired and needs a day off. After all. I have not missed a single week in 9 years. Think about that. Not a single week in over 9 years. Who the hell does that? Not many. I read the blogs. I know what's out there. I keep it consistent for a reason.

I think a day here and there is reasonable. Am I right people?

So here we are, another end to another summer. Look I have seen a few summers come and go in my day. But if there's one thing that really gets my goat about these NEW politically correct summers is this. Having kids go back to school before Labor Day is a crime. Are you kidding me?

Who thought that was a good idea? That's a bunch of BS!

Going back to school before Labor day is just not right. That's why I have our annual Surf Family Robinson Party every Labor Day Weekend. Because that is the official end of of Summer.
Going to class in August? That's crazy. Not to mention insanely hot and humid. Hello? Global warming? Who the hell wants to sit in class when it's 90 degrees and there's little waves?

Not me. Not anyone I know. Go back to the traditional end of summer and stop this insanity. Let the kids be free for one more week. Stop this before it gets out of control. Next thing you know they will be heading back to school after July 4th!

You parents and kids should start working on this now.

If you need me to sign a petition or even start one just let me know. Let's take back the summer Kids!

On Saturday September 1st, we had our annual Surf Family Robinson Beach Party. This annual party comes off the heels of the hugely successful MOLLY contest the weekend before. And the week before that was our annual Wounded Warriors Hit the Beach Day. Man we have one action packed end of summer events all lined up week after week.

The MOLLY raised over $7,000 towards the Molly Fund. That is just AWESOME. I hate to say that word but it's true! So truly amazing that the legacy of that sweetheart Molly would be this MOLLY Fund that helps families who have children dealing with cancer. Giving back to the community and helping families who are less fortunate than we are is such a rewarding experience.

The MOLLY Surf Contest is all about smiling and laughing and positive vibes all around. Nobody is trying to BEAT anybody in the contest, they all want one thing. To have FUN. And trust me. They all had fun. Including all the adults and all the kids.

Think these guys are taking themselves too serious? Ha!
Buck and Erica joining in the celebration of the MOLLY. Though I better not see either one of these two dressed like this outside of the MOLLY, unless of course it's Halloween or something. But this is the vibe of the MOLLY. FUN!

Having fun on the beach! What a novel idea. Long LIVE MOLLY ROWLEE and the AWESOME MOLLY SURF CONTEST

So getting back to Surf Family Robinson. Just what exactly is SFR? Well back in the late 80's and early 90's a bunch of us first time parents thought it would be a good idea to have an end of summer beach party for all the surfers with kids. Our very first one was in 1992. *The Pirate on the left was at the very first one as a small child.

The Pirate on the right is the star of the show. Pirate Jonas is the most hated Pirate in all of Pirate land. And every year he comes looking for Capn Vince and his buried treasure. The only thing he finds is a bunch of surfers and their kids.

This year was our 21st annual SFR! Yes that's 21 years!

That tradition still lives on. And as long as there are surfers with young kids who want to hang out at the beach with others just like you, there will always be a SURF FAMILY ROBINSON, and it will always fall on the Saturday of LABOR DAY WEEKEND. Because at least we can determine when Summer ends. And as far as SFR is concerned. Summer Ends after Labor Day. Not before it.

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances:

The GOP convention has ended but not before Hurricane ISSAC wrecked havoc in New Orleans. And then Tropical Storm Clint Eastwood took to the stage and unloaded on the President. I admit, that was weird. This week it's the Democrats turn to turn the tide that is fast rising against them. Look, this blog is not about politics. That's what facebook is all about. Spew your misguided and uninformed BS there. The bottom line is this. Are you better off than you were 4 years ago? If you can answer that honestly, then base your vote on that fact. Just vote.

I'll personally be voting for REAL Hope and REAL Change.

Guards at GITMO have discovered a plot to help Khalid Sheik Mohammed escape off the island. Old 80's porn star Ron Jeremy was seen in the area asking questions and posing as a news reporter when an alert guard put two and two together. Apparently KSM was promising Jeremy 72 virgins if he could help him escape by posing as KSM. Silly KSM...there's no escaping from GITMO. Your day is coming. You better be ready...because something tells me there won't be 72 virgins waiting for you when your time comes.

Note to self: Must pick up a case of old VHS tapes at Home Depot.

Yesterday- Summer 1999. MVF on the QUAD.
(Below) I remember this day like it was yesterday. Max was just 8 years old and he was out knee paddling my old Nomad 6' really thick QUAD into waves on his own. It was one of those turning points. When a child starts to connect the dots out in the water. Max was also at the very first Surf family Robinson. He made an appearance at this year's SFR. The 21st year. *Max will be turning 21 on September 14th. Wow. Where did the time go?

Come On Up IRENE! August 29-2011 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

OK so IRENE was not the BIGGEST Storm or the Biggest Hurricane Surf we ever got. But you know what? It wasn't all that bad. It was head high and clean. There were some hollow moments. But more than anything?

Oh my God was the water cold. It had to be in the mid 50's...I mean it was cold. For a Tropical Storm swell like that? Yea, it was shocking.

I chose my old band the NOR'EASTERS and our signature tune 95 on 95 as the main track. It was all recorded live by John Carden back in the 80's...we did it live. NO over-dubs. Me and my brother Johnny on lead guitars. With me singing lead vocal. " 95 on 95..."

The second song is by Jon Anderson and it is called "Chasing Waves..."

The clip is dedicated to the memory of Virgina Grondin.
May she rest in peace....

Hope you all like it.

Ralph

KATIA September 9, 2011 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

OK so she wasn't she biggest and cleanest Hurricane swell we've ever had...but she was not bad. I saw some pretty hollow waves out there. And I saw some serious crowds too. Boy did I ever.

I caught a few BDI's here that I just so happened to catch. Hell I just pointed my camera out in the line-up and pulled the trigger.

All in all I'd give KATIA a B...and really? I'll take a "B" storm any day of the week, and so wouldn't you.

The song is DogMan by King's X.

Hope you dig it...
